Detroit native, Rhea the Second, began her musical voyage as a quiet little girl amidst the soulful harmonies and lyrical influence of acapella gospel music at her home church in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Brought up in a family full of singers, dancers, visual artists and musicians, she quickly caught the bug of creative expression and has been expressing herself artistically since age 7. Since 2006, Rhea has been professionally trained in musical theater, vocal performance, pageantry, radio/TV and film. In 2010, she decided to develop her talents elsewhere and moved to Chicago to study in the Contemporary, Urban, and Pop music program at Columbia College. A couple years later she started singing background and joined her first band. In 2014, Rhea decided to pursue a career as a solo artist, reshaping her artistic trajectory and rediscovering her creative sound and essence. Inspired by her mother’s middle name, she took on the artist name Rhea the Second—being that she isn’t the first—and began carving out a vibrant presence in Chicago’s music scene. Today, she stands as a multifaceted Alternative Pop and R&B recording artist, songwriter and producer blending the musical elements of soul, hip hop, electronic, funk, pop and house music, drawing most of her inspiration from the likes of Janelle Monae, Rihanna and Aaliyah.

With an artistic journey spanning over a decade, Rhea the Second has diligently cultivated her skills for both airwaves and stage. Her recent accomplishments include performing at Coachella with rapper, Noname, singing background for Leon Bridges, and performing in Jeymes Samuel’s “Hallelujah Heaven” music video with Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton and Lil Wayne. She’s worked with a number of Chicago based artists and musicians as well including Akenya, Roy Kinsey, Demetruest, The O’My’s, Melvin Knight, Loona Dae, Justin Ruff, Amyna Love and more. Rhea also won second runner-up for Best Pop Artist in Chicago Reader’s Best of Chicago 2023.

Ranging from experimental pop to the very heart of R&B, Rhea has become a force in the city of Chicago and believes that her music is an unending source of passion, creativity, storytelling, freedom, and joy, all of which she hopes to continue to share with her listeners.
